The Nightingale Wren (Microcerculus philomela) is one of my favorite birds in the primary forests of Bijagua. They have one of the best songs of any neotropical bird, and I always get a smile on my face when I hear one nearby.
They live in the dark, wet understory and love nursery logs and fallen tangles. They stay very low to the ground and only rarely pop up into view.

The Bijagua area of Costa Rica is one of my favorite places in the world. The climate, habitats, and diversity of species is incredible here and I have spent thousands of hours walking slowly through the forest, finding hidden gems.
