The Snowcap is one of the 53 species of hummingbird in Costa Rica, but one of the most desirable birds for photographers. If you want to see see Snowcaps up close, Bijagua is the perfect place to visit.
These birds are very common at Tapir Valley Nature Reserve, and we usually have a few spots where they're reliably seen on our bird tours. Like most hummingbirds, they stake out their territory and guard it from other birds.
Snowcaps are sensitive to habitat quality, and they require open areas adjacent to heavy forest cover. The secondary forests of Tapir Valley are the perfect place to see these little gems.
If the Snowcap is a target species for you on your next Costa Rican adventure, we can make sure you have an excellent experience with this special bird. Contact us today for more information!
